THE 1770 HOUSE USHERS IN A NEW ERA OF ELEGANCE
East Hampton, NY (January 2005) — For 235 years, the 1770 House has welcomed guests with hospitality and comfort,
a time-honored tradition that continues to attract guests from around the world to the intimate inn, just steps from the
heart of East Hampton village. Renovated in 2002, the venerable home seamlessly integrates its historic elegance
with the modern amenities of a luxury hotel, combined with first-class dining from chef Kevin Penner.
Historic Home
Originally built as the home of William Fithian, the inn dates back to 1663. However, it was not until 1770 when the
home was converted into an inn that it gained its name and began an enduring reputation for warmth and welcome.
In its many years, the inn has retained much of its original architecture and colonial charm. The steep wooden staircase,
exposed ceiling beams and book-lined lounge with antique fireplace are a few of the elements that lend grace and style.
Intimate Accommodations
With just seven guest rooms and a private carriage house, the skilled staff can personally cater to guests needs to make
each stay relaxing and specially customized. Each room is equipped with flat screen televisions, plush Frette bed linens
and duvet covers, phone and internet access; some with fireplaces and private entrances. The carriage house features a
king-bed, lofted queen bed, spacious living room with flat-screen television, DVD/VCR, private garden entrance and can
accommodate up to four guests.
Fine Dining
The 1770 House is home to the acclaimed cuisine of chef Kevin Penner. The talented chef has earned a faithful following
and rave reviews for his contemporary American cuisine with distinctive international influences. Working closely with
local purveyors and farms, chef Penner uses the highest quality ingredients in his seasonally inspired specialties.
Downstairs, diners can enjoy his sophisticated fare in the more casual Tavern, or choose from a traditional pub menu
and complete collection of fine wines, cocktails and after-dinner drinks.
Historic charm, dedicated service and unmatched fine dining make the
1770 House an East Hampton treasure
enjoyed by generations of happy guests.
